Message from our CILA President January 20, 2022
With the first month of 2022 behind us, we’re navigating yet another chapter of the COVID pandemic. With uncertainty surrounding our competitive season ongoing, the CILA Executive wanted to make a statement regarding the activities over the past year and our plans for 2022-23.
The challenges of competing during 2021 made it impossible for loggersports to be offered on CILA campuses. All college and university sports were at a standstill, and for the first time in memory CILA held no official competitions.
2021 promised a new beginning, with each institution focused on recruiting and fielding competitive teams. CILA members felt it best to respect travel restrictions and host “regional” competitions in the fall of 2021 and spring of 2022. Dal AC hosted the first competition in October with UNB and MCFT attending. Overall, the event went well and it was a great to see our athletes competing again. That said the spring regional competition in Ontario has been cancelled with UNB still hoping to host a second Atlantic show on March 19. Although regional and institutional restrictions may still prevent interprovincial travel, all CILA members have been invited to the competition.
As for 2022-23, I’m optimistic that all CILA competitions will resume, and we can continue to foster the love of loggersports across CILA campuses. Dates for next season’s competitions will be posted well in advance of Fall 2022.
Lastly, I’d like to thank our sponsor, ECHO, and Laurie Workman – National Marketing Manager at Echo Power Equipment, Canada for their continued support and the signing of a new 4-year sponsorship agreement.
